In-reply-to » I disabled the compression of logs on my edge, which I'm hoping will fix the "instability" I see every now and again where my edge network just "falls off the face of the earth". Some folks don't really appreciate / understand this, but Disk I/O can kill your application(s) no matter what. I/O Wait is a real thing.

Great! Write a post about it, and twelve into details, providing graphs, or stats on how disk “I/O can kill your application(s) no matter what”.

In-reply-to » 🤔 💭 🧐 What if, What if we built our own self-hosted / small-web / community-built/run Internet on top of the Internet using Wireguard as the underlying tech? What if we ran our own Root DNS servers? What if we set a zero tolerance policy on bots, spammers and other kind of abuse that should never have existed in the first place. Hmmmm

Intranets have been around since Jesus times (well, not quite 😂, but you get the idea). They are fun to play with, but that’s about it. I mean, the “fun” of the Internet comes from its variety.

@thecanine@twtxt.net I am not arguing you didn’t do the right thing™, and even if the impact is minimal, or nothing, you did what you thought was right (and I agree). I don’t agree with certain rules the EU wants to impose, not in this particular case. There are rotten potatoes everywhere, and I don’t get fooled by the EU often sacrosanct behaviour.

But who am I to say anything, right? Look at the grotesque clown utterly shit show we live with on this side!

In-reply-to » DCF77, our time signal radio station, is a great public service. I really love that. It’s just a signal that anybody can pick up, no subscription, no tracking, no nothing. Much like GPS/GNSS. 💚

@movq@www.uninformativ.de how do you set your clock to use a specific time signal radio station? I have one wall clock in my office, it works great, but no way to set that.

@aelaraji@aelaraji.com, I mean to follow up here on the brief exchange we had on irc.mills.io, but I forgot. Never too late, so here it goes:

18:16 <aelaraji> quark 🙏 much appreciated but it won't be necessary, since there isn't much to miss out on in most of where I hang out, so I could just disconnect and spare everyone else the noise

In-reply-to » @alexonit prologic has me sold on the idea of hashv2 being served alongside a text fragment, eg. (#abcdefghijkl https://example.com/tw.txt#:~:text=2025-10-01T10:28:00Z), because it can be simply hacked in to clients currently on hashv1 and provides an off-ramp to location-based addressing (though i still think the format should be changed to smth like #<abc... http://example.com/...> so it's cleaner once we finally drop hashes)

@zvava@twtxt.net the second format (the one you think should be changed to), is it backwards compatible to what’s currently in place? I believe the first one would be.

@prologic@twtxt.net it is looking good! On mobile, I find that the line height is too large for my liking, and that text takes too much space. I would like it a bit more dense. But that’s just my taste.

I haven’t checked in desktop; I try not to touch desktop on weekends. 😂

In-reply-to » For a very first attempt, I'm extremely happy how this tray turned out: https://lyse.isobeef.org/tmp/blechschachtel/ The photos look rougher than in person. The 0.5mm aluminium sheet was 300x200mm to begin with. Now, the accidental outside dimensions are 210x110mm. It took me about an hour to make. Tomorrow, I gotta build a simple folder, so I don't have to hammer it anymore, but can simply bend it a little at a time.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org very nice! What’s the intended usage?

@prologic@twtxt.net well, multiculturalism, immigration, and race (to mention a few, there is more) are key points on conservative’s agendas. That’s why I asked what you thought of it. You haven’t replied yet. Of course, no answer is an answer, right?

@prologic@twtxt.net this is 90 degrees fork. Now that you mention being conservative socialist (first I heard of the term, had to read some to grasp what’s all about), what do think about immigration and multiculturalism?

@prologic@twtxt.net considering other alternatives we have seeing (of which I have lost track already), yes. Why don’t you guys (client makers) take a step at a time and, for now, increase the hash length to deal with the collisions. Then location-based addressing can be added… or not, you know. 😅

@movq@www.uninformativ.de better than in the US. Our lasts only 10 years, and you need to go through the vision test, and, of course, pay). Recently they added a little gold star denoting “real ID” compliance, and we had to pay $10 to get the old one replaced—out of the regular renew “schedule”.

In here it is all about control, and money.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org is it a 360 degree video online, or a local one?
