“Designed by Apple in California” stopped being sold in 2019. It sold for $199, and $299 (two sizes). Check the eBay pricing on that link, if you want to know the selling price today.
So, I had a talk with the CFO last night about this. Nothing to be gained yet, but baby steps. I think we might be able to get one for Christmas. That is, if there is any left. These little things are flying off the shelves like hot apple pies!
Yeah, @movq@www.uninformativ.de, on this week’s episode of Hair Care Tips™ with Lyse: It’s super rare that I have spray cream, but at the moment there is a can in the fridge. After giving it a good shake, I parked the lid right next to the plate on the cold ceran stove, so I could apply some cream on my piece of apple pie. I then put the lid back on and noticed that there was some cream on the stove now. Since I did not move the plate, I dragged my long hair right through… :-)
@aelaraji@aelaraji.com I thought I had replied to this, but don’t see it, so my apologies. I like macOS, and Apple machines are the only ones who can run it. Granted, there are Hackintoshes, but those are on the way out, sadly, because of Apple’s move to their own CPU chips. So, no, a ZimaBoard won’t do the trick. 😅
Wives are something else, my friend. “Handle with care” applies all the time. 🤭
Lol, this is actually a good thing by Apple. Doesn’t kill social apps at all, just prevents some harvesting of your entire address book by abusive apps like WhatsApp.
Did Apple Just Kill Social Apps?
Apple’s iOS 18 update has introduced changes to contact sharing that could significantly impact social app developers. The new feature allows users to selectively share contacts with apps, rather than granting access to their entire address book. While Apple touts this as a privacy enhancement, developers warn it may hinder the growth of new social platforms. Nikita Bier, a start-up founder, called it “the en … ⌘ Read more
What a sunny Sunday. I’m going to harvest the apples from the garden.
I’m not the biggest Apple fan around, but that is pretty awesome.
Apple A16 SoC Now Manufactured In Arizona
“Apple has begun manufacturing its A16 SoC at the newly-opened TSCM Fab 21 in Arizona,” writes Slashdot reader NoMoreACs. AppleInsider reports: According to sources of Tim Culpan, Phase 1 of TSMC’s Fab 21 in Arizona is making the A16 SoC of the iPhone 14 Pro in “small, but significant, numbers. The production is largely a test for the facility at this stage, but more production is expected … ⌘ Read more
@prologic@twtxt.net They are but then again Apple’s is doing things Apple’s way 😆 Hint: punishing devs and users for using alternative stores.
@slashdot@feeds.twtxt.net At least Android has fDroid. Apple is a dominatrix.
Apple Stands By Decision To Terminate Account Belonging To WWDC Student Winner
TechCrunch’s Sarah Perez reports: Apple is standing by its decision to terminate the Apple Developer Account of Appstun, a mobile app company created by one of Apple’s own Worldwide Developer Conference 2021 student winners. According to an announcement published on Appstun’s website, Apple moved to terminate the devel … ⌘ Read more
The “Matrix Experiment”, i.e. running a Matrix server for our family, has failed completely and miserably. People don’t accept it. They attribute unrelated things to it, like “I can’t send messages to you, I don’t reach you! It doesn’t work!” Yes, you do, I get those messages, I just don’t reply quickly enough because I’m at work or simply doing something else.
I’ll probably shut it down.
Nobody cares about privacy. The reasons I bring up in discussions are “too nerdy”. They put all their stuff to Google or Apple, so why would messaging be any different? (We’re not even using all those Matrix crypto stuff … That would be insane.)
It’s a lost cause. I’m frustrated.
Will I give in and use WhatsApp instead? Not sure yet.
We rely too much on Bluetooth. Even on Apple devices it sometimes is a very broken technology. We cannot trust not having cables around with the old trusty USB.
Hey Apple, it’s 2023 - about time to start supporting the content indexation of markdown files in Spotlight out of the box, don’t you think?

It would be hard to explain to anyone, some fifty years ago, how I accidentally bought apples grown in South-Africa at the supermarket here in Düsseldorf the other day..
@prologic@twtxt.net yes, the OS is based on stock Android, so probably wouldn’t be of interest if you prefer Apple.

An official FBI document dated January 2021, obtained by the American association “Property of People” through the Freedom of Information Act.

This document summarizes the possibilities for legal access to data from nine instant messaging services: iMessage, Line, Signal, Telegram, Threema, Viber, WeChat, WhatsApp and Wickr. For each software, different judicial methods are explored, such as subpoena, search warrant, active collection of communications metadata (“Pen Register”) or connection data retention law (“18 USC§2703”). Here, in essence, is the information the FBI says it can retrieve:
Apple iMessage: basic subscriber data; in the case of an iPhone user, investigators may be able to get their hands on message content if the user uses iCloud to synchronize iMessage messages or to back up data on their phone.
Line: account data (image, username, e-mail address, phone number, Line ID, creation date, usage data, etc.); if the user has not activated end-to-end encryption, investigators can retrieve the texts of exchanges over a seven-day period, but not other data (audio, video, images, location).
Signal: date and time of account creation and date of last connection.
Telegram: IP address and phone number for investigations into confirmed terrorists, otherwise nothing.
Threema: cryptographic fingerprint of phone number and e-mail address, push service tokens if used, public key, account creation date, last connection date.
Viber: account data and IP address used to create the account; investigators can also access message history (date, time, source, destination).
WeChat: basic data such as name, phone number, e-mail and IP address, but only for non-Chinese users.
WhatsApp: the targeted person’s basic data, address book and contacts who have the targeted person in their address book; it is possible to collect message metadata in real time (“Pen Register”); message content can be retrieved via iCloud backups.
Wickr: Date and time of account creation, types of terminal on which the application is installed, date of last connection, number of messages exchanged, external identifiers associated with the account (e-mail addresses, telephone numbers), avatar image, data linked to adding or deleting.
TL;DR Signal is the messaging system that provides the least information to investigators.
Still undecided between TiddlyWiki, DokuWiki, Bear, Benotes, Memos, my blog software, standardnotes, apple notes and more. I like them all quite a bit, but standardnotes, the only one that has reall multiplatform is so fucking complicated to host on your own and then they have this stupid offline subscription thing that allows rich text or the block editor that works like notion. I also found codex docs which is really really nice. Unfortunately they lack proper authentication. 1 / 2
it seems they are following the URN format of a URI where you just prefix things with colons.

Now talking about macOS on Apple Silicone, and how the OS takes advantage of what the M1MAX has to offer.
The GPU that comes in the SoC seems incredible, even hard to believe. Apple is doing magic here.
Look at the specs on Apple. Jaw dropping.
Third generation of AirPods. So, new AirPods. Read more at Apple. 😂
New subscription plan for Apple Music: Voice Plan. Available for many countries. Using Siri to access songs. Meh.

Apple Event for 18 October 2021, 10:00 PDT, 13:00 EDT begins. Commentary will stream as replies to this twt. I might miss things here and there, as I will also be on a work meeting from 13:00 to 14:00 EDT.
Apple Store online down before today’s event. Less than two hours till it goes live!
@prologic@twtxt.net I am thinking on calling in sick to work. 😂 Every time I order an iPhone, I take the day off on delivery day. On Apple events I normally use my lunch and break times all combined, to watch them.
Apple’s event on Monday is bringing, as always, speculation to the table. One thing most outlets seem to agree is the introduction of an “M1X” chip, thought Apple might call it differently. M1X might also mean, M1(we don’t know what comes after, or next generation). Either way, I would really like to see the return of the 27” iMac, but I will not hold my breath. Nevertheless, Monday is going to be an exciting day for many, including me! 🍎
If I worked for Apple, and had decision making on acquisitions, I would buy Lux, the makers of Halide. I mean, look at this!
“Join us for a special event.” Unleashed 😯
and of course, we all know that apple went bankrupt in the mid 90s after they purchased Be, Inc. and gave steve jobs the finger.
