Diving into mblaze, I think Iāve nearly* reached peek email geek.
Just a bunch of shell commands I can pipe together to search, list, view and reply to email (after syncing it to a local Maildir).

So far Iām using most of the tools directly from the command line, but I might take inspiration from https://sr.ht/~rakoo/omail/ to make my workflow a bit more efficient.

the stem matching is the same as how GIT does its branch hashes. i think you can stem it down to 2 or 3 sha bytes.
if a client sees someone in a yarn using a byte longer hash it can lengthen to match since it can assume that maybe the other client has a collision that it doesnt know about.
@prologic@twtxt.net Wikipedia claims sha1 is vulnerable to a āchosen-prefix attackā, which I gather means I can write any two twts I like, and then cause them to have the exact same sha1 hash by appending something. I guess a twt ending in random junk might look suspcious, but perhaps the junk could be worked into an image URL like
. If thatās not possible now maybe it will be later.
git only uses sha1 because theyāre stuck with it: migrating is very hard. There was an effort to move git to sha256 but I donāt know its status. I think there is progress being made with Game Of Trees, a git clone that uses the same on-disk format.
I canāt imagine any benefit to using sha1, except that maybe some very old software might support sha1 but not sha256.
I have configured my twtxt.txt as simple as possible. I have setup a publish_command on jenny. Hopefully all works fine, and I am good to go. Next will be setting the announce_me to true. Here we go!

This is only done as a last resort if thereās no other way to find the missing twt. Like, when thereās a twt that begins with just a hash and no user mention, thereās no way for jenny to know on which feed that twt can be found, so itāll ask some Yarn pod in that case.

To my limited knowledge, Keyoxide is an open source project offering different tools for verifying oneās online persona(s). Thatās done by either A) creating an Ariande Profile using the web interface, a CLI. or B) Just using your GPG key. Either way, you add in Identity claims to your different profiles, links and whatnot, and finally advertise your profile ⦠Then there is a second set of Mobile/Web clients and CLI your correspondents can use to check your identity claims. I think of them like the front-ends of GPG Keyservers (which keyoxide leverages for verification when you opt for the GPG Key method), where you verify profiles using links, Key IDs and Fingerprintsā¦
Who maintains cox site? Is it centralized or decentralized can be relied upon?

- Both ASP and Keyoxide Webtools can be self-hosted. I donāt see a central authority here⦠+ As mentioned on their FAQ page the whole process can be done manually, so you donāt have to relay on any one/thing if you donāt want to, the whole thing is just another tool for convenience (with a bit of eye candy).

But it looks like a nice option to prove that Iām the same person to whom that may concern if I ever change my Twtxt URL, host/join a yarn pod or if I reach out on other platforms to someone Iāve met in her. I wonder if bento has slightly missed the key to being a total genius approach to host management. ok hear me out. each node periodically pulls configuration from a coordination node that hosts a binary cache. the admin may make changes and pre-build them maybe kick off an update task manually if they want, but the point is thereās an automated checkin. for my case, the device I have available for coordination isnāt really capable of hosting a binary cache for any of my other machines. the nix store for my dev machine is larger than the entire disk of the coordinator! and due to the yearly heat my best machine canāt be reliably powered on all the time. so i started thinking to myself, āself, what if instead of having a central coordinator we fetched configuration from a reliable git mirror (maybe git+torrent some day) and consume it as a flake. the source could even be swapped out using a flake registry (so you donāt even have to commit to self-hosting anything other than a json file). then managed hosts only have to be setup to consume the registry and the shared flake (which registers the update agent) and DONE?ā

We already have this. Ed25519 libraries exist for all major languages. Aside from using ssh-keygen -Y sign and ssh-keygen -Y verify, you can also use the salty CLI itself (https://git.mills.io/prologic/salty), and Iām sure there are other command-line tools that could be used too.

-R, --open-registrations whether or not to have open user registgration
meaning it doesnāt give the default setting or warn you that you need to use -R=false and not -R false. It also leaves unclear whether --open-registrations false would work or if you need to do --open-registrations=false. Itās also unclear whether the setting change in the user interface is overridden by the command line arguments, overrides the command line arguments, is persisted across restarts.
Maybe all this is worth posting an issue for additional documentation on the git repo if there isnāt one already.

@prologic@twtxt.net Righteo, so rookie error - I obviously had some untracked, rather important files for starting my pod and I ran a make clean. Why I originally had them in the git directory is anyoneās guess. Anyway it blew away those files including the database so thatās that. So your good self and @bender@twtxt.net etc - apologies but your profiles got nuked as well (as did my own but easily recreated).
Another thing I noticed which was the reason I ran make clean in the first place. I noticed my pod was being built with Go 1.22.4. Could this be a problem @prologic? preflight.sh actually errors out about itā¦
I love the history view in Jira, but changes to long descriptions are hard to find via stare-and-compare. Iāve been using git diff --word-diff to find the actual changes.

As for Keepass, all I do is syncing itās database file across devices using syncting. Never felt the need to try anything else.
I guess it is safe enough for my use case, with Backup database before saving on and custom Backup Path Placeholders as Backup plan in case of an Eff up.
