I want to propose my own counter-proposal to the discussion thatâs ongoing with Go and error handling.
Here it is: https://docs.mills.io/ix4qDHMnQUSPxZ5tXz12Vg?view
Itâs very rough and needs much more work, but essentially I want to propose the following change to the languageâs grammar:
f := os.Open("foo.txt") or (e error) {
log.Fatal("error opening file; %s", e)
}

Appleâs macOS UNIX certification is a lie
As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a someone mentioning macOS is a UNIX approaches 1. In fact, it was only late last year that The Open Group announced that macOS 15.0 was, once again, certified as UNIX, continuing Appleâs long-standing tradition of certifying macOS releases as ârealâ UNIXÂź. What does any of this actually, mean, though? Well, it turns out that if you actually dive into Appleâs conformance statements for macOSâ ⊠â Read more
Linux 6.14 with Rust: âWe are almost at the âwrite a real driver in Rustâ stage nowâ
With the Linux 6.13 kernel, Greg Kroah-Hartman described the level of Rust support as a âtipping pointâ for Rust drivers with more of the Rust infrastructure having been merged. Now for the Linux 6.14 kernel, Greg describes the state of the Rust driver possibilities as âalmost at the âwrite a real driver in rustâ stage now, depending on what you want to do.â â« Michael ⊠â Read more

@arne@uplegger.eu Hahaha! :-D
? operator in Go đ No. For so many reasons.
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz You mean the ? as suffix for boolean returning functions or as ternary operator (condition ? true_value : false_value)?
Interestingly, I just had to look up the first case. I was under the wrong impression that the question mark at the end would be some shortcut for chained function or method calls that handles nil return values in a graceful way without actually dereferencing and thus crashing. I probably never wrote more than 30Â lines of Ruby in my entire life. Must have been some other language.
@kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz Haha, I see. :-)
OpenAI Says It Has Evidence DeepSeek Used Its Model To Train Competitor
OpenAI says it has evidence suggesting Chinese AI startup DeepSeek used its proprietary models to train a competing open-source system through âdistillation,â a technique where smaller models learn from larger onesâ outputs.
The San Francisco-based company, along with partner Microsoft, blocked suspected DeepSeek accounts from accessing ⊠â Read more

? operator in Go đ No. For so many reasons.
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org one time i saw that operator when working with ruby on rails and i was so confused by it that i got stuck on the same code involving it for 9 hours straight
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org oh yeah i forgot to mention i changed the domain to pinktape lol! sorry about that! https://pinktape.girlonthemoon.xyz/
@movq@www.uninformativ.de yeah i get so nervous doing version upgrades, this is technically my first time not doing it as a fresh install from a live USB, so iâm glad this went smoothly lol. scared to try it for my servers though!

Google Maps is run by cowards
Google, on its Google Maps naming policy, back in 2008: By saying âcommonâ, we mean to include names which are in widespread daily use, rather than giving immediate recognition to any arbitrary governmental re-naming. In other words, if a ruler announced that henceforth the Pacific Ocean would be named after her mother, we would not add that placemark unless and until the name came into common usage. Reviving a dead audio format: the return of ZZM
Long-time readers will know that my first video game love was the text-mode video game slash creation studio ZZT. One feature of this game is the ability to play simple music through the PC speaker, and back in the day, I remember that the format âZZMâ existed, so you could enjoy the square wave tunes outside of the games. My take on the discussion to introduce an ? operator in Go đ No. For so many reasons.
@prologic@twtxt.net Believe me, Iâve yapped on twtxt in the last couple of moths more than I did anywhere else within the past +5 years in all other platforms together. đ€Ł Here, is the only place I can be myself which I have all of you to thank for.
@prologic@twtxt.net Or databag self-hosted on a RaspberryPi you can throw on a corner of your basement (or a small vps if one is willing to pay for threema) and never look back. The hardest part is getting others to at least test anything other than the already mainstream apps.
@prologic@twtxt.net Haha, easy just crop it! [TW] đ
@andros@twtxt.andros.dev Sweeeeet! Just gave it a try, youâve done a wonderful work 𫥠I wanted to replay from there but couldnât go past the first page of the feed. It kept freezing on me and complaining about some bad Url (as mentioned on the test twt), so Iâll have to dig through my follow list and see where I effed up this time. đ
Hereâs a twt from @andros@twtxt.andros.dev âs new version of Twtxt-el đ„ł It feels WAaaaaY better! although it freezes on me as soon as I navigate to the next page complaining about some bad url, but the chronological sorting of the feed as well as the navigation buttons (links?) are a great addition. Looking forward to the next update already! đ đ„łđ„łđ„ł
@prologic@twtxt.net I believe @andros@twtxt.andros.dev is referring to the one on the original twtxt docs . Iâve been meaning to contribute to the discussion on the git but Iâm just lazy đ
amma throw in a little something in a minute Poke a bee hive and run away style đ
Skill Issues of course, but that's going away next as soon as I get my php-fpm shi_ together.
@prologic@twtxt.net Iâd stumbled upon #FrankenPHP while reading through #Caddy stuff and thought maybe itâs bit overkill for what i need it for but then again, it will be just a âOne container in for two outâ, thatâs win in my book đ
