@prologic in this case it isn't vendor lock-in. I believe they do it because the carrier "eats" the costs (the interest part of the instalments). The phones are fully unlocked.

“Move to iOS” app continuously refused to run as intended and expected, so couldn’t migrate mum’s Android based phone data. Most of her stuff is on a Google account, but not the SMS/MMS/RCS messages. Haven’t found a way to export, then import those into iOS.
She isn’t too happy having to keep the old phone just for the messages. Need to find a way to go through them, export multimedia attachments, and import them into iOS. I don’t think it’s going to happen, but I am not letting her know yet. 😅

It's extremely surprising to me that younger non-technical people just type in their full name (properly cased first and last name with a space in between) for a technical username in account registration or login forms. I've seen that happening several times in the past few years. The field name is "Benutzername" in German, literally "username". Even adding a placeholder text to signal that they could simply use their nickname in lowercase did not change anything at all. Well, one person used at least an e-mail address.

When I ran my Matrix server for our family, this was the first thing that people were bummed out about: “Oh, this needs a username and a password? Why doesn’t it just work? That’s annoying.”

Dang it! I ran into import cycles with shared test utilities again. :-( Either I have to copy this function to set up an in-memory test storage across packages or I have to put it in the storage package itself and guard it with a build tag that is only used in tests (otherwise I end up with this function in my production binary as well). re reading so NewRAMStorage(…) is just something that setups your storage and initial data.. that can probably live with storage/sqlite. The point is the storage package does not import the implementations of storage.Storage It just defines the contract for things that use that interface. Now storage/sqlite CAN import storage and not have a circle dep.
It kinda works in reverse for import directions. usually you have your root package that imports things from deeper in the directory structures.. but for the case of interfaces it reverses where the deeper can import from parents but parents cannot import from children.

I forgot to follow up on this one. I ended up ordering the Mac mini M4 just before Christmas, which means I got it on 31 December 2024. The machine is all I thought it will be, so, very happy with it. This time around I am using the “mostly vanilla” approach. That means no iTerm2, but Terminal app, no Chrome, etc., and just a few selected brew applications. Want to keep it lean!

The project is a POC (Proof of Concept) that went into production and the company has customers who are using it. The developers had been working for several years, without testing, structure, isolation and so on. The company hired me to transform the project into a real product. There are in my hands 422 python files to transform that they beg me a refactore, architecture and testing. Every developer’s bad dream.
My first step is to read and understand the tree because there are apps inside other apps call each other. I am very determined to work on a new repository.

@andros@twtxt.andros.dev What do you mean by API? yarnd (which powers Yarn.social pods like twtxt.net) does have an API, however that API is designed for clients to interact with the pod and the user’s account and feed. e.g: there is a command-line client called yarnc and I used to maintain a mobile native app (using Flutter).
What use-case did you have in mind?
i like this little ideas utility i’ve been using like i keep pulling up the idea table to see what i’ve added and it makes me wanna start one of them like the CLI app i wanna write in golang with charmbracelet’s bubbletea even though i only have a vague idea of what i want in a CLI app
