I read a lot about Clean Code, SOLID, TDD, DDD… now I’m discovering «A Philosophy of Software Design»… but nobody talks about the importance of the project architecture. Do we depend on the framework to do the work for us?
You know I’m a big fan of Clean Architecture, but I feel alone when I share my thoughts on social media or at work.

Would anyone object to the feeds.twtxt.net service having auth soon™ ? 🤔 I’m tired of the garbage feeds that it has accumulated over tie (spammers) and I want to a) clean it up b) lock it down somewhat.

The idea would be that you’d login with your Yarn.social account on some pod you control/operate or share with a nice person 🤣 – For those unfamiliar, this is called IndieAuth or IndieLogin. ALL Yarn.social pods are in fact valid (have been for years now) IndieAuth Providers. So I can just ust that. This also technically means you could login with your own domain too (more on that later…)

@prologic@twtxt.net IMHO: Most people like it the easy way: “Don’t make me think!”. If you do not pay money for a service, your data/content is the price to pay. Some handy mobile apps for the fediverse and the ongoing debate on social media services may get the people and their content out of the walled gardens of the 21st century.

@prologic@twtxt.net Since I live in Germany, I do believe the media here is generally reputable. It really depends where you live of course. Source I look at are Reuters, NPR, The Guardian, Die Zeit, NY Times, CNN, Tagesschau, Spiegel Online, RP Online (for local news), … I would never just trust what I see in my social media feeds.

Hmm, I just noticed that the feed template seems to be broken on your yarnd instance, @kat@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz. Looking at your raw feed file (and your mates as well), line 6 reads:

Looks like the first letters of the version and commit got somehow chopped off. I’ve no idea what happened here, maybe @prologic@twtxt.net knows something. :-? I’m not familiar with the templating, I just recall @xuu@txt.sour.is reporting in IRC the other day that he’s also having great fun with his custom preamble from time to time.

That “broken” comment doesn’t hurt anything, it’s still a proper comment and hence ignored by clients. It’s just odd, that’s all.

Your favourite social media platform should not be where you get your facts from. You get jokes and share with your friends, but facts they ain’t. Get your world news from actual news sources instead.

@andros@twtxt.andros.dev What do you mean by API? yarnd (which powers Yarn.social pods like twtxt.net) does have an API, however that API is designed for clients to interact with the pod and the user’s account and feed. e.g: there is a command-line client called yarnc and I used to maintain a mobile native app (using Flutter).

One benefit with bluesky is your username is also a website. And not a clunky URL with slashes and such. I wish twtxt adopted that. I have advocated for webfinger to for twtxt to let us do something like it with usernames. Nostr has something like it

By default the bsky.social urls all redirect to their feeds like: hmpxvt.bsky.social
Many custom urls will redirect to some kind of linktree or just their feed cwebonline.com or la.bonne.petite.sour.is or if you are a major outlet just to your web presence like https://theonion.com‬ or https://netflix.com

But seriously, Just like any UNIX-Like system to Unix™, as in non of them are UNIX™, but each of them is providing more or less similar experience and re-implementing what once was parts of “UNIX™ software” their own (more or less better) ways. Timeline is Yarn™ Pod like, (my personal take on the word pod is: “an instance of XYZ software acting an escape POD from X-BS for… ABC reasons.”) providing more or less of a similar experience, implementing some of Yarn.social Extensions, trying to add in some more …etc.

Otherwise, I don’t see the Yarn pod mention as some kind of malicious manoeuvre, but more of a tribute to what (might have) sparked inspiration for creating Timeline? Also, our friend @sorenpeter@darch.dk here has got a valid reason for using PHP (#tms7aka) so let’s let’s put our unease towards the language itself aside and maybe just help however/as much as we can in order to make internet (the World?) a better place.

@codebuzz@www.codebuzz.nl I have some shell scripts that handle some of the log formatting details, but I mostly write my mesages by hand. Lately I’ve been browsing twtxt.net since they aggregate most of the known network. I have a couple of demo aggregators sitting around, but I’m in the middle of some infra rebuilds so a lot of my services are offline rn. They’re both built on a simple social graph analysis that extracts urls for your direct follows the follows listed on each of those feeds (friend-of-a-friend replication). certain formatting operations are awkward with my setup, so I may write an app of some kind in the future. likely gemini-based, but I have a number of projects ahead of that one in the queue.

@bender@twtxt.net I try to avoid editing. I guess I would write 5/4, 6/4, etc, and hopefully my audience would be sympathetic to my failing.

Anyway, I don’t think my eccentric decision to number my twts in the style of other social media platforms is the only context where someone might write ¼ not meaning a quarter. E.g. January 4, to Americans.

I’m happy to keep overthinking this for as long as you are :-P

the test would be: how often does unwanted content get pushed on your feed? do incongruent posters easily disrupt harmonious connections? &c. less about the community, more about how the social dynamics play out as various groups and individuals interact.
