Weathered White Brooklyn Banana Bench ?~L~X https://thenewleafjournal.com/b/E0W
We cleaned up the forest today with the scouts at absolute dream weather. Blue sky, no clouds, 19°C sunshine. In the morning it was still quite chilly and windy, though. We didnāt find anything spectacular, maybe a rubber dinghy, three car tires and a broken ratchet strap are the most outstanding things to me apart from all the general rubbish, cigarettes, glass, wet wipes, etc. Still, a very fun activity. In the end we had bockwurst, grilled cheese and lye buns on the camp fire.
I then went for a quick stroll with my mate. Itās crazy how quickly the clouds moved in, 30-45 minutes tops. There will be rain in an hour. And the coming days only reach half the temps. Iām glad I took advantage of the great spring day. Havenāt seen Azabache yet and with the rain on deck, the odds are against him and me.
Lovely pics, mate! Looks like the weather cooperated nicely too! š Take more, share, but, most importantly, continue having fun! šš»
For the first time in years, I managed to get out and throw a round of disc golf. Had a good time playing Vietnam Veterans Park in Kannapolis, throwing +10 over 9 holes, with my only par being thanks to a 40ā āputtā with my MRV. And the weather was perfect.
I hope to play another round soon.
No sign of April weather today, though. The setting sun was gorgeous: https://lyse.isobeef.org/abendhimmel-2026-03-27/
@movq@www.uninformativ.de oh yeah, we have heard plenty. The re-entry boom of the shuttles (when they were in service) and, more recently, of the SpaceX rockets boosters. Depending on weather conditions we might hear a lot, or nothing at all.
I will try capturing a āregularā launch as I see it from home one of these days. It is a curved white, blueish line in the sky, with a big, incandescent tip (the actual rocket burners, and boosters). Pretty cool sight.
Itās raining and raining and raining and raining. I had hoped my mate canceled the hike today. But he didnāt. He showed up. So, off we went to the Staufeneck Castle Ruin after having a lunch first. The rain drizzling on the umbrella was very nice and I was very glad that he dragged me outside.
It was super wet, though. Entire creeks were coming down on some path sections. A slippery, muddy mess on others. Our boots were already soaked a few kilometers in the trip. The important part was that the feet were warm, though, despite being wet. We barely met anybody in this lousy weather. So we had basically everything for us alone. Thatās always great.
Visibility was poor the higher we got. At 13 a low hanging cloud was moving in, 14 is the result just three minutes later. We couldnāt see the castle 300 meters away anymore. No chance. It was really funny, because the houses in town at two kilometers distance were still visible. Poorly, but you could clearly make out the town. Not the castle, there was just a white wall of cloud :-)
On the way back, we warmed up with tea I brought along. After I dropped off my mate at the train station, I bumped into a fellow scout, so my wet feet cooled off completely in these 15 minutes we talked. The rainjacket mostly held up with the protection of the umbrella, just the sleeves were down. My rain trousers, on the other hand, leaked a little bit a the lower ends. I was glad when I could strip all the wet stuff. I would do it again, though. :-) Now, Iām swapping the newspaper in my boots every half an hour to absorb all the moisture.

Oh, our leaning silo laughs at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. :-D Iām wondering when it collapses. Iām waiting for this to happen for years now.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Thanks. Unfortunately, the weather stations are quite far away.
I have to operate my own one. :-D

What a beautiful, beautiful 0°C Sunday arvo and evening! The weather forecast delayed the snow by the minute. An hour or so after it finally started very, very lightly, I headed off for the woods to check out the lake again. Unfortunately, with the fresh snow layer, the crazy wild surface texture of the ice sheet wasnāt visible anymore. But it brought some other nice views and photo opportunities.
I initially thought that I just go for a quick turn. However, with the snowfall a wee bit increasing I was hooked and kept going. Visibility was poor, but the snow blankets just looked too stunning. The road surfaces were quite slippery, so I often just walked alongside the pathways. On downhill slopes I had some good fun sliding down the road on my feet. With varying success. Luckily, I managed not to fall.
On the summit of the mountain the twigs had those absolutely magnificently looking windblown crystal coverings. Awwwwwww! They never get old. It was already getting dark, so the camera was tired and wanted to sleep. The snow program then made use of the flash and Iām quite pleased with how these shots turned out.
Two deer crossed the road in front of me and ran into the woods, that was sight for sore eyes. Although I felt bad that they had to flee from me in this white terrain. By the time I got home, the snow had accumulated around eight centimeters in height, even in town down in the valley. Walking on this fresh snow is just amazing. And I love the sound it makes. Today, the snow consistency must have been just right, because the crushing sound was really loud.
I cannot recall that I had frozen hair and beard before, but today, there was a thick ice buildup. In case I had, it was definitely never this much. Felt really cool.
Enough of this preliminary skirmishing, there ya go: https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2026-01-25/
@bender@twtxt.net Iām already using it for tracktivity (meant for tracking activities and events, like weather, food consumption, stuff like that), which is basically a somewhat-fancy CSV editor:

I have a couple of other projects where I could use it, because they are plain curses at the moment. Like, one of them has an āedit boxā, but you canāt enter Unicode, because it was too complicated. That would benefit from the framework.
Either way, itās the most satisfying project in a long time and Iām learning a ton of stuff.
Finally Skyrim weather. š„³

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org Oooh, nice! ā We only have cold stormy weather over here. š„“
The weather is cold and unpleasant. It is two degrees Celsius and raining.
We had some gray soup with the occasional fine rain with strong wind gusts. Despite the bad forecast we took the train to Geislingen/Steige and strolled up to the Helfenstein castle ruin. All the colorful leaves were so beautiful, it didnāt matter that the sun was behind thick layers of clouds.
We then continued to the Ćdenturm (lit. boring tower). By then the wind had picked up by quite a bit, just as the weatherman predicted. We were very positively surprised that the Swabian Jura Association had opened up the tower. Between May and October, the tower is typically only manned on Sundays and holidays between 10 and 17 oāclock. But yesterday was Saturday and no holiday. The lovely lady up there told us that theyāre currently experimenting with opening up on Saturday, too, because there are some highly motivated members responsible for the tower.
We were the very first visitors on that day. Last Sunday, when the weather lived up to the weekdayās name, they counted 128 people up in the tower. Very impressive.
The wind gusts were howling around the tower. Luckily, there are glass windows. So, it was quite pleasant up in the tower room. Chatting with the tower guard for a while, we got even luckier: the sun came out! That was really awesome. The photos donāt do justice. As always, it looked way more stunning in person.
Thanks to all the volunteers who make it possible to enjoy the view from the thirty odd meters up there. That certainly made our day!
After signing the guestbook we climbed down the staircase and returned to the station and headed back. The train even arrived on time. What a great little trip!

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org Weatherās great at the moment, isnāt it? I like it when itās cloudy, dark, chilly. š
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org oi, at least you still have weather services. We are soon to find ourselves looking at birds, ants, etc., to get a grasp. š
On a weather related topic, we get rains almost each day, mid-afternoon/late-afternoon. Thatās great, because I love rain, but I also need to mow the wilderness in the back of the house, and the front lawn. So, yeah, kind of a conundrum.
Three weather services with three different forecasts. We got a little bit rained on, so at least some of them were not completely wrong. The timing was off by an hour, though. And nobody expected the Spanish inqui^W^Wthunder either. It was a nice walk.
Oh cool, as I type this, lighning and thunder very close by now. At most a kilometer away. Glad Iām home and not in the woods anymore. And heavy rain kicks in, too.
Aww man, the hot and sticky weather has returned to Minnesota. I wish the AC in my car worked..
What stupid weather in August. Iām sitting here on our terrace in my jacket. Itās raining and the temperature has dropped to 16° C.
Why is it that I hate packing so badly? I gotta have to brace myself up to start that now.
The outlook is poor, rain all the way until maybe the last day of summer camp. Definitely bringing my gummies, they are well needed, the weather report announces several days with up to 14 liters per square meter.
@kingdomcome@yarn.girlonthemoon.xyz I REPLIED TO THIS AND NOW ITāS NOT SHOWING WTFFFF anyway what i said was that i have some fun stuff in the daily note template already like ASCII weather forecast from wttr AND a jenny holzer quote from fortune!!! i should add more fun stuff!!!
We covered quite some ground in the two and a half hours today. The weather was nice, mostly cloudy and just 23°C. Thatās also why we decided to take a longer tour. We saw four deer in the wild, three of which I managed to just ban on film, quality could be better, though. My camera produced a hell lot of defocused photos this time. Not sure whatās going on with the autofocus. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2025-07-10/
When the sun came out, colors were just beautiful:

@prologic@twtxt.net Bah! Why canāt we all have mild weather. š„²
@prologic@twtxt.net so, what did you have for dinner last night? Howās the weather Down Under a bit past 02:00? Do tell me. š¤
We went on a 14Ā kilometers long hike in the heat, only a few spots were in the shade, most of our trip was in the open fields with the sun beating down on us. We reapplied the sun blocker after about two hours or so. All in all it took us about three and a half hours before we reached our destination Besigheim.
Last time I was there it was rainy, now we had the exact opposite. After some yummy Chinese lunch we visited the old town. Thereās some gorgeous timer framing to see. When kept in decent shape, it just looks so dang cool.
Since it was too hot, we rode back by train. Despite the heat and some sections near the roaring Autobahn, this was a nice hike. Would do it again. Only in colder weather, though. I certainly donāt wanna trade my comperatively larger (still nothing to other more rural areas), covering forests with the wide open fields and vineyards in summer. Thatās for sure.

@movq@www.uninformativ.de Agreed, finding the right motivation can be tricky. You sometimes have to torture yourself in order to later then realize, yeah, that was actually totally worth it. Itās often hard.
I think if you find a project or goal in general that these kids want to achieve, that is the best and maybe only choice with a good chance of positive outcome. I donāt know, like building a price scraper, a weather station or whatever. Yeah, these are already too advanced if they never programmed, but you get the idea. If they have something they want to build for themselves for their private life, that can be a great motivator Iāve experienced. Or you could assign āem the task to build their own twtxt client if they donāt have any own suitable ideas. :-)
Showing them that you do a lot of your daily work in the shell can maybe also help to get them interested in text-based boring stuff. Or at least break the ice. Lead by example. The more I think about it, the more I believe this to be very important. Thatās how I still learn and improve from my favorite workmate today in general. Which Iām very thankful of.
I went on a small hike, just 12-13km this time. The weather was great, blue sky, sunny 18°C, but with the wind it felt colder. Leaves and other green stuff is exploding like crazy. It looks super beautiful right now.
I came across an unfortunately dead salamander on the forest road, some fenced in deer, heaps of sheep, some unmagnetic cows (some were aligned very roughly north-south, but mainly with the axis of the best view I believe), a maybeetle and finally an awesome sunset. Not too shabby! The sheep were mehing all the time, that was really lovely to hear. And the crickets were already active, too. Didnāt expect them to hear yet. I tried to record the concert, but the wind messed it all up. Oh well.

@bender@twtxt.net Thanks! The rain rapidly cooled off the 17°C to just 10°C. I certainly appreciated that. The weather is coming from the west here, so I thought youāve sent it our way. Let me try to return it. :-)
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org I can see somebody put a good effort coming up with some pretty cool goodies! We, Floridians, envy your proper April weather. We are toasting already, and it is not even May. Send us some rain, please!
Todayās stroll was really nice. Just around 11km in total Iād reckon. We had a barbie at a mateās garden where everybody went on a hunt for an easter basket. Oh boy, what a preparation that must have been! Baking the bunnies, dying the eggs, mixing the bear leek butter and so on. Thatās dedication, let me tell you. :-)

It was the first time this year that we had half proper April weather and a thunderstorm in general. It started off with clear sky and lovely sunshine. Right after arvo lunch it started to rain, so we went into the hut. Then, the sun returned.
On the way back with the growling thunder in the distance coming closer and closer we escaped the rain just perfectly. A minute or two after we reached the car, wet stuff started coming down the sky. Not even half a minute after opening the front door, it poured like crazy. Lucky twice today. Thereās beautiful sunshine again by now. It smells absolutely great after the rain. I love it!
@movq@www.uninformativ.de Oh, thatās beautiful!
I opened up all the photos in new tabs and went through them. For a second, I wondered that it was snowing at your place right now. :-D
That made me realize that so far we basically had nearly no April weather whatsoever. May might be full of it then, letās see. :-)
A mate and I had an amazing but also exhausting hike to the highest of the Three Emperor Mountains yesterday with perfect weather conditions. Sunny 18°C, blue sky with barly a cloud and a little welcoming breeze, just beautiful.

Mt. Stuifen is 757 meters above sea level, has a small shelter and a barbie area and is still the most boring one of the three. Itās also the one farthest away from me. Not sure why it has two summit crosses, but both arenāt at the summit. The third, makeshift one at the real summit was gone by now. Four years ago, somebody had cobbled one together and put it up.
We bought our tucker at a local bakery on our way. This was the first time I tried a Teufelsbrezel (lit. devilās pretzel), a lye pretzel with pepper. Havenāt come across that anywhere else. But I can certainly recommend that, itās yummy.
We were glad when we were finally back home after some 26 or 27km. I wonāt do much today and let my feet rest. Another friend called for a much, much shorter hike tomorrow.
Enjoy the 92 photos: https://lyse.isobeef.org/wanderung-auf-den-stuifen-2025-04-19/
Hit by the arvo sun rays behind the window I was convinced that it is t-shirt weather. Deep blue sky, yeah, for sure! It turned out to be just 15°C and declining, though. So, I had to wear my jacket on todayās windy stroll. Pretty nice. Didnāt take many photos, but there you go: https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2025-04-10/

just one of those ones you never want to stop. it was dark, quiet, and lonely which just let me zone out with the cool weather and maintain what felt easy. didnāt look at the watch until the end when it notified me it was going to die. adjusted the mileage and time to reflect.

Couldnāt find anybody to join me this arvo, so I went alone. Only in the forest I began to see real snow. And then of course with each meter of elevation gain. I reckon there were 5-6Ā cm at the summit, so there is still room for improvement. The weather was absolutely stunning, a sunny blue sky alternating with clouds, most of my hike hardly any wind and 1°C. Climbing the mountain was a different story, the wind hit me hard.
I just love the wind-brushed formations of ice on the twigs and branches. They look soooo incredibly cool. It was kinda hard to capture them on film with the wind pushing everything around.
On the way down I took the narrow and currently fairly slippery path that was closed for some weeks due to felling activity. It looks so different with heaps of trees on the ground now. Theyāve also sawn down the tree with the small hole near the ground (which I think Iāve shown a few times in the past). The beech in 52 to 54 was probably hit by lightning a few months ago. At least itās completely charred.

typical 5km easy then 5km comfortable-uncomfortable followed by another 5km easy. local weather and signs said it was around 48F, very low humidity (the sweat salt stains prove that bit), and just a really nice day out with a breeze. stopped the run after the planned session to get some extra walking in for a stupid garmin challenge.

@movq@www.uninformativ.de This outage did affect me, though not much, via the university where my wife teaches and where I teach sometimes. They actually sent out an alert in their emergency alert system (the one they use to alert people of extreme weather events and bomb threats, mostly), telling people that all IT systems were down.
A friend of mine elsewhere pointed out that they pushed this change on a Friday, which of course no software developer with any experience would ever, ever, ever do. I have to assume thereās some toxic management at CrowdStrike, but who knows. Even more reasons to sympathize with the poor folks who are probably going to be working nights and weekends to clean up this mess.
