@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org the lone, defiant ranger, err, Azabache. I love this one!

Azabache returned just a few minutes later when the sparrow or great/blue tit was gone. Next time I will use a tripod to record the video. Also sorry about the sound, I used all my Audacity skills to remove the noise, but somehow, combining the video and audio track in kdenlive somehow messed up the sound. Thereās some horrible sqealing towards the beginning.
The sun was out and tricked everybody to believe itās nice and warm. However, with the wind, the 11°C felt way colder. Still, super nice out there, I enjoyed it a lot. The quick trip to the dairy farm took me more than double the regular time, because I took close to 400 photos. Oh boy, Lyse is such an idiot!
The 12°C sunshine was rather windy all day long as witnessed by the ruffled 02. https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2026-03-18/

I took advantage of the beautiful 14°C sunshine and decided to have a long lunch break: https://lyse.isobeef.org/waldspaziergang-2026-02-25/ When there was no wind, the thin jacket was actually too warm.
Itās raining and raining and raining and raining. I had hoped my mate canceled the hike today. But he didnāt. He showed up. So, off we went to the Staufeneck Castle Ruin after having a lunch first. The rain drizzling on the umbrella was very nice and I was very glad that he dragged me outside.
It was super wet, though. Entire creeks were coming down on some path sections. A slippery, muddy mess on others. Our boots were already soaked a few kilometers in the trip. The important part was that the feet were warm, though, despite being wet. We barely met anybody in this lousy weather. So we had basically everything for us alone. Thatās always great.
Visibility was poor the higher we got. At 13 a low hanging cloud was moving in, 14 is the result just three minutes later. We couldnāt see the castle 300 meters away anymore. No chance. It was really funny, because the houses in town at two kilometers distance were still visible. Poorly, but you could clearly make out the town. Not the castle, there was just a white wall of cloud :-)
On the way back, we warmed up with tea I brought along. After I dropped off my mate at the train station, I bumped into a fellow scout, so my wet feet cooled off completely in these 15 minutes we talked. The rainjacket mostly held up with the protection of the umbrella, just the sleeves were down. My rain trousers, on the other hand, leaked a little bit a the lower ends. I was glad when I could strip all the wet stuff. I would do it again, though. :-) Now, Iām swapping the newspaper in my boots every half an hour to absorb all the moisture.

Oh, our leaning silo laughs at the Leaning Tower of Pisa. :-D Iām wondering when it collapses. Iām waiting for this to happen for years now.
There was an endless coming and going of sun, clouds and rain. Not to forget about the wind. I called it quits a bit earlier and went into the woods.
Towards the end I was completeley surrounded by rain curtains in all directions. This looked super cool. I thought I might make it home just in time without having to use my umbrella, but the rain clouds were way quicker than I anticipated. Just after the rain hit me, I met an acquaintance who just started his walk. The wind picked up hard and rain hammered down, mixed with snow. Holding the umbrella was a workout. Shortly after I returned, the rain stopped again.
I didnāt notice the kestrel sitting on the tree when I took the last photo. That was a nice surprise when I sorted through the nearly 300 pics.

Actually wait I just thought about this and realized that the precise timing of the ACTUAL GitHub seed bank, by which I mean the Arctic Code Vault, on 2020-02-02, makes it more or less a perfect snapshot of pre-Copilot GitHub. Also precisely timed before we all got brain damage from COVID. This is the only remaining archive of source code by people with a fully working sense of smell
(Bonus points because the Arctic World Archive is located in Svaldbard and thatās the name of the AI in Stacey Kadeās āCold Eternityā.)
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org no wonder I picked that cake (albeit coincidentally), I adore almonds, and hazelnuts! Your teammates are absolutely amazing, dude! A very nice project farewell! On leaving places I have a small anecdote.
I know someone who on 3 February 2004 left his job to go elsewhere. At the time his teammates threw a party, and gave him a very nice portable storage. Twenty days later, he returned, and jokingly they asked him for the storage, and money spent on farewell party back. I heard, from a close source, that he gave them his middle finger, but donāt quote me on that. ššš
Letās hope that the two cakes turn out better than last week: https://lyse.isobeef.org/tmp/tote-und-lebendige-kuchen-2025-12-02.jpg Got some gingerbread as backup. Yeah, best lightingā¦

@prologic@twtxt.net Germany was listed as āopposingā on https://fightchatcontrol.eu/ for a while, now itās back to āundecidedā. According to netzpolitik.org, itās still debated. Also according to that page, there could be an important vote on the EU level on October 13/14.
The green party and the (far) left are opposing this (at least in Germany). Sadly, Germany is leaning more right with every year ⦠As for young people: The (far) left is the strongest party among young people, with the (far) right being the second strongest one. @lyse@lyse.isobeef.org Yeah, removing the cover will probably help. Iāll have to try. š And, yes, the scrolling is pretty annoying (and kind of ruins the experience a little bit).
The printer isnāt that loud ā at least not for a dot matrix printer. š Itās been ~30 years since Iāve last seen them in person, but I remembered these things to be louder. Iām typing on my Model M, maybe that contributes to the perceived noise on this video. Hereās an isolated recording of that keyboard: https://movq.de/v/ddc98b03d8/2022-02-21āmodel-m-goes-brrr.ogg 𤣠It really sounds like that when youāre typing fast. Brrrrt.
We finally got a caliper donated for this yearās scout flea market. We didnāt sell it, but kept it ourselves. It will come in very handy every now and then in our material store. For example, I missed having a caliper in the past when sorting our random assortment of screws or measuring the depth of a hole. Itās a wee bit banged up (probably happened during transport) and didnāt come with a box, but the latter is now solved.
The lid and bottom came from a wardrobe back panel I got from a mate, the sides were rocket sticks in their former lives. I found some scrap of felt in our material store and some hinges laying around in the drawers of my own workshop.
Unfortunately, the table saw teared up the plywood veneer fibres badly, even though I put tape around to prevent that. This is the first time it didnāt work. At. All. To cover that up, I painted the box with some decades old tinting paint (price tag says Deutsche Mark, not Euro!) from my paint cabinet. Itās awesome, works absolutely perfectly and doesnāt smell the slightest bit. I reckon, this caliper box is plenty good enough for occasional use at our scout material store.

@prologic@twtxt.net so, what did you have for dinner last night? Howās the weather Down Under a bit past 02:00? Do tell me. š¤

my main itch with the DMs extensions is that these messages are intended to be private, not public information. Thatās why other extensions make sense, but DMs are another kind of feature.
TwiXter, Mastodon, FB and some other services usually hide the DMs in another section, so they are not mixed with the public timeline.
I find the DM topic interesting, I even made an indie experiment for a centralized messaging system here https://github.com/eapl-gemugami/owl.
Although, as Iāve said a few times here, Iām not particularly interested in supporting it on microblogging, as I donāt use it that much. In the rare case Iāve used them, I donāt have to manage public and private keys, and finally none of my acquaintances use encrypted email.
Nothing personal against anyone, and although I like to debate and even fight, itās not the case here. This proposal is the only one allowing DMs on twtxt, and if the community wants it, Iāll support it, with my personal input, of course.
A good approach I could find with a good compromise between compatibility with current clients and keeping these messages private is āhidingā the DMs in comments. For example:

pls elaborate on a āp2p databaseā, āall storyā and āRegistriesā.
My first thought takes me to something like secure-scuttlebutt which itās painful to sync data using clients, and too slow compared to downloading a text file.
Also Iād like for twtxt to avoid becoming an ActivityPub. Works well but itās uses too many resources IMO.

Iām defending being able to self-host your Web client (like youād do with a Wordpress, twtxt is a micrologging, at the end), instead of federated instances, so in a first thought Iād say Registries have many disadvantages being the first one that someone has to maintain them active.

It was mostly cloudy, but every now and then the sun peaked through. With very little wind, the 12°C felt quite nice. Especially for a hike. With the sun completely hidden and more wind, the lunch break at the summit was a bit chilly, though.
Thereās a bad looking crack in the climbing rock in 10. When you have eagle eyes, you might be able to see the hooks in the cliff for the climbing ropes. I havenāt seen this one before. Also, it looked like several cubic meters of earth, grass and rock fell off the top.
