In-reply-to » I've been thinking about a new term I've come across whilst reading a book. It's called "Complexity Budget" and I think it has relevant in lots of difficult fields. I specifically think it has a lot of relevant in the Software Industry and organizations in this field. When doing further research on this concept, I was only able find talks on complexity budget in the context of medical care, especially phychiratistic care. In this talk it was describe as, complexity:

This reminds me of this video: The Biggest Gap in Science: Complexity
However you might end up with more questions (complexity?) than answers (simplicity?)

Can anyone recommend and/or vouch for a Chrome/browser extension that lets me write rewrite rules for arbitrary links on a page? e.g: s/(www\.)?youtube.com\/watch?v=([^?]+)/tubeproxy.mills.io/play/\1 for example? đŸ€”

In-reply-to » I've ripped off it's GPU about a year ago to rescue another computer ... Now I'm stuck with only SSH to play with it. Since it came with just a VGA port for display and my monitor takes all but THAT!

What’s all of this about? one may ask

Well I’ve been itching to toy around with a BSD on actual hardware and away from the comfort of VMs. NetBSD, FreeBSD, OpenBSD
It doesn’t matter. I just want to “Make it feel
 Make it feel alive AGAIN!”

In-reply-to » man... day17 has been a struggle for me.. i have managed to implement A* but the solve still takes about 2 minutes for me.. not sure how some are able to get it under 10 seconds.

@xuu@txt.sour.is That was one of the horror puzzles where I had to look for help. đŸ„Ž I modelled my solution after this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pDSooPLLkI (I can’t explain it better than the video anyway.) It takes a second on my machine and that’s with my own hashmap implementation which is probably not the fastest one.

In-reply-to » I've been reading "Shareware Heroes: The renegades who redefined gaming at the dawn of the internet" learning of games developed before I was born, or when was too small. I'm finding old gems to play and understanding that we have the same problems developing games 30+ years after, although with some obvious differences.

@eapl.me@eapl.me Which problems are those? đŸ€”

The only “advanced” Tetris I played back then was “Block Out”:

Except it didn’t run nearly as smooth as in this video. 😅

So Youtube rea really cracking down on Ad-blockers. The new popup is a warning saying you can watch 3 videos before you can watch no more. Not sure for how long. I guess my options are a) wait for the ad-blockers to catch-up b) pay for Youtube c) Stop using Youtube.

I think I’m going with c) Stop using Youtube.

In-reply-to » Wondering how long I'll keep twitter-related feeds (like on fraidycat, or here) before giving up on them as permanently dead.

With Youtube testing a “three strikes and you’re out” policy against people who use ad blockers, I’m also wondering whether Web 2.0 is effectively walled off and I should just give up on it entirely and look elsewhere for information and entertainment.

In-reply-to » Home | Tabby This is actually pretty cool and useful. Just tried this on my Mac locally of course and it seems to have quite good utility. What would be interesting for me would be to train it on my code and many projects 😅

Most of the can run locally have such a small training set they arnt worth it. Are more like the Markov chains from the subreddit simulator days.

There is one called orca that seems promising that will be released as OSS soon. Its running at comparable numbers to OpenAI 3.5.

In-reply-to » I may have misspoken in my haste/anguish. I don't know of any examples of Ben Shapiro advocating rape. I do know them of Jordan Peterson. He's known for that, but I've seen it myself. So, to be clear, I don't know if Ben Shapiro is a rape apologist and have no evidence of that. Wouldn't surprise me frankly because the set of ideas he does talk about tends to include being A-OK with crimes against women, but anyway.

@abucci@anthony.buc.ci Ben Shapiro has plenty to be ashamed of not the least of which is selling his home to Aquaman: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X9FGRkqUdf8

In-reply-to » Why, oh why, does YouTube include upcoming videos in RSS feeds? “This video premiers in 21 hours.” Oohhhhhhkay. I will long have forgotten about it by then, thank you very much.

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org As far as I know, they’re still visible in the Web UI. Although, in the mobile app and youtube.com, I believe it tells you that the video isn’t available without having to click on it. They don’t tell you that in the RSS feed, and I agree; it gets annoying.

If we had a custom feed generator that hooks directly into the YouTube API, I’ll bet we could find that information and put “[Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled]” in the title for premieres and remove it when the video is available.

In-reply-to » @eaplmx This exact thing happened to me last night. I happened to be watching some random Youtube video, then this Ad came on, normally they are short 3-5s ads and I just tolerate them (sometimes) -- But this particular ad was 20+ mins long! Somehow I kept listening to it too, despite my daughter telling me I could hit that "Skip Ad" button.

@prologic@twtxt.net duud use an ad block on youtube.

What was it you ask?! 😅 It was one of those testimonial-style, hyped up marketing videos of some product called “Gemini 2” (a currency trading app, allegedly), I kept watching all the way through, it was fantastic! đŸ€Ł

Then I went and read up on it!

Short answer: TOTAL FUCKING SCAM đŸ€Ł
