Some bad code just broke a billion Windows machines - YouTube â This is a really good accurate and comical take on what happened with this whole Crowdstrike global fuck up.

Itâs a very dangerous time. The coalition for reason is extremely weak. Thatâs why I really appreciate C.H. Danhauserâs entertaining and informative Logical Thinking series. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUqMNVnELzE&list=PLMpofmkxKHBJfta_JzekLbWGHUSLUJoLt)
Can anyone recommend and/or vouch for a Chrome/browser extension that lets me write rewrite rules for arbitrary links on a page? e.g: s/(www\.)?youtube.com\/watch?v=([^?]+)/tubeproxy.mills.io/play/\1
for example? đ€
@prologic@twtxt.net Watched that one the other day after seeing that much chatter about #HTMX on the feed. And now Iâm watching HTMX Sucks - Youtube by the same person (or should I say people?) đ

Feels like my days of browsing YouTube for content are numbered. Itâs only a matter of time before YouTube refuses to load for any browser with an ad blocker.
@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org i first learned about it from this vid https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JxvKfSV9Ns&pp=ygUOZmlib25hY2NpIGhlYXA%3D
and this site: https://www.programiz.com/dsa/fibonacci-heap
@xuu@txt.sour.is That was one of the horror puzzles where I had to look for help. đ„Ž I modelled my solution after this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pDSooPLLkI (I canât explain it better than the video anyway.) It takes a second on my machine and thatâs with my own hashmap implementation which is probably not the fastest one.

Iâve been reading âShareware Heroes: The renegades who redefined gaming at the dawn of the internetâ learning of games developed before I was born, or when was too small.
Iâm finding old gems to play and understanding that we have the same problems developing games 30+ years after, although with some obvious differences.

@prologic@twtxt.net Any of these work? https://gadgetstouse.com/blog/2023/05/15/bypass-ad-blockers-not-allowed-on-youtube/
So Youtube rea really cracking down on Ad-blockers. The new popup is a warning saying you can watch 3 videos before you can watch no more. Not sure for how long. I guess my options are a) wait for the ad-blockers to catch-up b) pay for Youtube c) Stop using Youtube.
I think Iâm going with c) Stop using Youtube.
The Unreasonable Effectiveness Of Plain Text - YouTube â This is very good đ
Oh okay, so Youtube is cracking down on âAd Blockersâ.

@prologic@twtxt.net Invidious might satisfy these requirements: https://invidious.io
Itâs worth noting, though, that Youtube is right now in the process of locking itself down and it might not be long before all third-party frontends stop working. Similar to what twitter and reddit are doing.
Is there a Youtube frontend that doesnât suck? Requirements:
- Disable all comments.
- Disable all public trending.
- Local-only
- Kid friendly
With Youtube testing a âthree strikes and youâre outâ policy against people who use ad blockers, Iâm also wondering whether Web 2.0 is effectively walled off and I should just give up on it entirely and look elsewhere for information and entertainment.
Most of the can run locally have such a small training set they arnt worth it. Are more like the Markov chains from the subreddit simulator days.
There is one called orca that seems promising that will be released as OSS soon. Its running at comparable numbers to OpenAI 3.5.
@movq@www.uninformativ.de @prologic@twtxt.net you think we could get media cards to show youtube previews?

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org As far as I know, theyâre still visible in the Web UI. Although, in the mobile app and youtube.com, I believe it tells you that the video isnât available without having to click on it. They donât tell you that in the RSS feed, and I agree; it gets annoying.
If we had a custom feed generator that hooks directly into the YouTube API, Iâll bet we could find that information and put â[Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled][Scheduled]â in the title for premieres and remove it when the video is available.

Why, oh why, does YouTube include upcoming videos in RSS feeds? âThis video premiers in 21 hours.â Oohhhhhhkay. I will long have forgotten about it by then, thank you very much.

@prologic@twtxt.net duud use an ad block on youtube.
@eaplmx@twtxt.net This exact thing happened to me last night. I happened to be watching some random Youtube video, then this Ad came on, normally they are short 3-5s ads and I just tolerate them (sometimes) â But this particular ad was 20+ mins long! Somehow I kept listening to it too, despite my daughter telling me I could hit that âSkip Adâ button.
What was it you ask?! đ It was one of those testimonial-style, hyped up marketing videos of some product called âGemini 2â (a currency trading app, allegedly), I kept watching all the way through, it was fantastic! đ€Ł
Then I went and read up on it! âŠ
Short answer: TOTAL FUCKING SCAM đ€Ł
