@prologic@twtxt.net What? I compiled, updated, and restarted. If you check what my pod reports, it gives that 7a… SHA. I don’t know what that other screenshot is showing but it seems to be out of date. That was the SHA I was running before this update.

There is a bug in yarnd that’s been around for awhile and is still present in the current version I’m running that lets a person hit a constructed URL like

YOUR_POD/external?nick=lovetocode999&uri=https://socialmphl.com/story19510368/doujin

and see a legitimate-looking page on YOUR_POD, with an HTTP code 200 (success). From that fake page you can even follow an external feed. Try it yourself, replacing “YOUR_POD” with the URL of any yarnd pod you know. Try following the feed.

I think URLs like this should return errors. They should not render HTML, nor produce legitimate-looking pages. This mechanism is ripe for DDoS attacks. My pod gets roughly 70,000 hits per day to URLs like this. Many are porn or other types of content I do not want. At this point, if it’s not fixed soon I am going to have to shut down my pod. @prologic@twtxt.net please have a look.

Alacritty doesn’t support TABs. Running a multiplexer locally doesn’t work well when you run another on your remote session. Uuuuuuugh! Nothing is ever perfect.

i was actually planning on running at a 11:00 or so pace, but felt so good i just kept increasing the pace each ¼ - ½ mile. in my own little world and ended it feeling great. hopefully i am not peaking too early again… just 12 more days until the PTC!

felt great today! temp was down to 78F and 80% RH, but there was an ever so slight breeze so it did not feel sticky. carbo loaded the day before so maybe that had something to do with it too, but i really have not been tracking my nutrition at all. kept it easy the first five or so miles and then bumped it up ever so slightly for the remainder. probably could have gone an even two hours but running on new shoes (hoka mach 6) and really have not broken them in yet. lots of hot spots and a lot of troubleshooting on the go.

OK I found this one, small enough, but where does it install to? can’t find the app, of any files of anything.
Being a total novice to Linux stuff….where is this file located and why don’t they prompt you for a folder location of the program? And why such a stupid name? Dozens to choose from and most over 300MB, not what I want - I just want Apache to run the index.html webpage or the index.php webpage. I do not need Javascript or Java programming editors….

not as long as i would have liked. got a late start because, well, i was enjoying the sleep! then i saw at 0500 the rain was not scheduled anymore so i slept in. then it rained!

so this run was hot, no cloud cover, 90% RH and about 90F. it was brutal. but overall had to cut it short due to shivers all over the body. i was not going to push it when i may be overheating.

highlight: raced a youg boy in boca ciega park

was hoping for a breeze or some rain from this tropical depression “debbie” but saw none of that until i had stopped. broke it up in 4 mile blocks and walked a bit to regain composure/heart rate. had some at the end with speed. funny how the only people i saw out today were runners.

i almost did not run this. my legs felt a bit work out and i was a little fatigued as well. my body battery was in the 90s so i looked at what garmin suggested and it told me to take a rest day. then i looked at my calendar for the week and made the call that a rest day could be on another day and to continue with just an easy run.

at the moment i am glad i did but we will see what future me thinks.

In-reply-to » @abucci / @abucci Any interesting errors pop up in the server logs since the the flaw got fixed (unbounded receieveFile())? 🤔

@stigatle@yarn.stigatle.no @xuu@txt.sour.is @lyse@lyse.isobeef.org “Not cool”? I was receiving many broken (HTTP 400 error) requests per second from an IP address I didn’t recognize, right after having my VPS crash because the hard drive filled up with bogus data. None of this had happened on this VPS before, so it was a new problem that I didn’t understand and I took immediate action to get it under control. Of course I reported the IP address to its abuse email. That’s a 100% normal, natural, and “cool” thing to do in such a situation. At the time I had no idea it was @xuu@txt.sour.is .

The moment I realized it was @xuu@txt.sour.is and definitely a false alarm, I emailed the ISP and told them this was a false positive and to not ban or block the IP in question because it was not abusive traffic. They haven’t yet responded but I do hope they’ve stopped taking action, and if there’s anything else I can do to certify to them that this is not abuse then I will do that.

I run numerous services on that VPS that I rely on, and I spent most of my day today cleaning up the mess all this has caused. I get that this caused @xuu@txt.sour.is a lot of stress and I’m sincerely sorry about that and am doing what I can to rectify the situation. But calling me “not cool” isn’t necessary. This was an unfortunate situation that we’re trying to make right and there’s no need for criticizing anyone.

Something like 100 Gbytes of this junk has accumulated since I updated and re-started the server. I’m now running the latest version of yarnd, so the update did not fix the problem. Something else is going wrong.

How are temporary files growing to 10 Gbytes in size? The name of the file is “yarn-avatar”, but why would avatars be so large?

@prologic@twtxt.net This is weird, but today, out of nowhere, yarnd filled up the disk on the VPS where I run it. It’s never done anything like this before and I have no idea why it would start. But it threw almost 700 Gbytes of data into /tmp in files like this:

164 files. Some are empty, some are 7 or even 10 Gbyte.

Any idea what would cause that? And why now, after running yarnd for so long with nothing like this happening?

They attribute unrelated things to it, like “I can’t send messages to you, I don’t reach you! It doesn’t work!” Yes, you do, I get those messages, I just don’t reply quickly enough because I’m at work or simply doing something else.

I admit I’ve always compromised on this way too much myself, always to this day having Facebook Messenger just to communicate in my families group chats. Sure I run it in a Work profile on my GrapheneOS phone that I can switch off at any time, I can completely cut it off from network access any time as well, I can have a lot of rudimentary control over it, I use it as sparingly as possible, but it doesn’t change the fact everytime I use it we’re funneling private convos through bloody Meta’s servers and trackers etc.

I’ll probably shut it down.

Nobody cares about privacy. The reasons I bring up in discussions are “too nerdy”. They put all their stuff to Google or Apple, so why would messaging be any different? (We’re not even using all those Matrix crypto stuff … That would be insane.)

It’s a lost cause. I’m frustrated.

Will I give in and use WhatsApp instead? Not sure yet.

easy run on the treadmill today since we have a lot going on and i had to watch the kiddos. split into three 5kms with first and last at about 10:55 pace, and the middle 5km at about a 9:14 pace. nothing crazy, felt good, kept it in the blue and finished it strong.
