Move beyond basic threshold alerts! Define clear Service Level Objectives (SLOs) and measure Service Level Indicators (SLIs) to track real user impact. Use Prometheus to alert when your SLOs are at risk, ensuring you focus on what truly matters to your users. #Monitoring #SRE #Prometheus

WinRing0: why Windows is flagging your PC monitoring and fan control apps as a threat
When I checked where Windows Defender had actually detected the threat, it was in the Fan Control app I use to intelligently cool my PC. Windows Defender had broken it, and that’s why my fans were running amok. For others, the threat was detected in Razer Synapse, SteelSeries Engine, OpenRGB, Libre Hardware Monitor, CapFrameX, MSI Afterburner, OmenMon, FanCtrl, Z … ⌘ Read more

I got a small desk calendar as advertising gift. It shows three months at once. I’m using this thing since the beginning of this year and I have to say that it turned out to be super useful. I’m happily surprised.

It sits on my desk next to my rightmost monitor. I’ve set it up so that I can see the last, current and next months. Each morning, I advance the “today window” or whatever its proper name is. This gives me a sense of what date we have today and which I will have forgotten half a minute later already. At most. However, it’s easily at hand by turning my head just a few degrees.

With the last month still showing, I had several occasions so far where a date in the past popped up in a meeting. I could easily tell when something happened, how long ago that was. Or how many days or weeks are left until we have to deliver something, etc.

In hindsight, this is absolutely no surprise at all. But I still find it fascinating. I’m now actually wondering why I never had something like that before. How could I live without that thing? Sure, I pulled up a calendar on my computer, ncal -w3 or so. But I always hated the inverted ncal output, necessary for showing week numbers, though. Having a paper calander right next to my screen at all times is sooooo much more handy.

So, do yourself a favor and think about whether such a desk calendar might be useful to you.

The only annoying thing is that the “today window” moves too easily. It slips down by its own. I reckon it wants me to regularly interact with it, so that I memorize the current date.

Genode OS Framework 25.02 released
The prime feature is the continuation of the multi-monitor topic of the previous release, covering multi-monitor window management and going as far as seamlessly integrating multi-monitor virtual machines (Section Multi-monitor window management and virtual machines). In-reply-to » Another infrastructure apocalypse day at work. Linux and Windows users were unable to reach M$ services. No Outlook, no Teams, no intranet (Sharepoint), no Azure, etc. Mac users were lucky, though. Took whoever the whole day to resolve that. Shortly before I called it quits, it worked again. I haven't read any e-mail today, used Teams mostly on the company phone, but it's the plague.

@movq@www.uninformativ.de Yes, exactly that. It’s awful! And it’s getting worse from my perspective. Nobody in charge is ever gonna learn anything. I figure we just fully deserve this M$ crap, every single bit. :-(

Luckily, the most important development platform still worked for me, so I could actually do something, review code, pull and push, etc. But the calls with the screenshares were nightmares. Can’t see shit on such a tiny display with today’s extreme monitor sizes people use. Looking at logs, hahahahahahaaa…

@prologic@twtxt.net

What’s made you unlock twitch.tv?
A couple of events where my only choices for watching them are: Twitch, Youtube or Fartbook.
What are you doing differently?
TL;DR: I stopped going there unless I have to for the reason above.

I used to spend Waaaaay too much time on the platform. I had a whole setup using Streamlink, MPV and Chatterino where sometimes, I’d have up to 10 concurrent open streams all day long on a secondary monitor (thanks to tiling window managers’ magic), some I was interested in watching, some I moderated for a couple of friends and some I’ve had open just for support (helping new streamers in the community with their numbers till they take off and such). Theeen something happened to one of my loved ones, so I had to stop all the nonsense and spend that time and attention with the person who deserves it the most. I blocked the platform at first since I had a habit to type twit... as soon as I opened a browser 😅 (addiction is real) and now I don’t. (That reflex got replaced with typing twtxt... instead 😂)

@aelaraji@aelaraji.com didn’t know there was a place to fix them; in here we toss them. Wish it was cheap to ship stuff. I have a couple of decent monitors in the garage that will soon take a trip to the curve…

@lyse@lyse.isobeef.org I have no Idea, I still haven’t found a repair shop I can trust with my monitor. As for the blackouts, they don’t have consistent frequency. Sometimes it’s once every 3 months… other times it’s 3 times a day 😂

@quark@ferengi.one We’re having a nice day out here, Clear sky, 26.2 °C (altough it feels like a ~30 °C) … no storms! And the most annoying thing is, THIS happens to my monitor whenever there is a power outage:

Image

With each one a row of pixels gets chipped out … and no I can’t afford a UPS at the moment.

I’ve ripped off it’s GPU about a year ago to rescue another computer … Now I’m stuck with only SSH to play with it. Since it came with just a VGA port for display and my monitor takes all but THAT!

Messed up the configuration of the nut UPS monitor so bad it actually initialised an UPS test where the device switched itself off on the reboot of the PC. No idea how that happened. So uninstalled it again.
